Remember, remember the fifth of November,
gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.
Awesome, Brilliant, Charismatic, Deadly, Excellent, Fabulous, Great, Huge, Interesting, Jovial, Kewl, Lovely, Magnifique,…. No, I am not trying to learn the English alphabet! Neither am I trying to create a rival ad for the Chevrolet Aveo!! I am just trying to find adjectives for the impact, the effect that V for Vendetta – the movie left on me!! I think it was phenomenal!!
Year 2003/04 – the Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions – Parts 2 and 3 of the Trilogy left me bewildered, flabbergasted and sad. Why? Well, I kinda lost respect for the Wachowski brothers. I was trying hard to find as to what the Wachowski brothers were trying to do. Yes, they did raise the bar of special effects in Hollywood cinema. They did try and capture something abstract on celluloid. They did increase the level of "cool" for all the computer geeks. Neo/Matrix was awesome! The idea did sell, but did not blow me away! Matrix [Part 1] the Animatrix series and the special effects in Reloaded and Revolutions are definitely worthy of mention. Of course, The Matrix Reloaded: Explained and The Matrix Revolutions: Explained were superb! It did get me thinking more and appreciating the Wachowski brothers' more for their idea and made me appreciate their trials! However, I was still disappointed with the outcome of Reload and Revolutions!
05-APR-2006: A story written by Alan Moore and David Lloyd in 1982 was made into a screenplay by Andy and Larry Wachowski. The movie was brought to life by James McTeigue [director] and the Wachowski brothers. The story was initially published by DC Comics. Everything about the movie was made right by brilliant screenplay, excellent direction, divine cinematography and superb acting. If you consider it, there are NO babes in the movie, there is a masked guy talking in GRE terms most of the time. There is a murder of a fat Briton. Yet, the movie made quite an impact on me! Some of the dialogues were just mindblowing!
So, how come a Guy Fawkes masked V, the protagonist of the story with terrorist intentions, with the intent of destabilizing the autocratic government in a dystopian United Kingdom can be interesting? Well, for one, it was Hugo Weaving [Agent Smith in the Matrix], who played the masked guy! But, you know what? I have renewed respect for him. With NO facial expressions other than a perpetual smile [on the mask], he has delivered a classic act!
EV – the female lead character was played by Natalie Portman! Well, she has definitely matured as an actor! I knew she had it in her. I also found her absolutely cute right from the time I have seen her in mainstream cinema! There were certain scenes [when she comes outta the detention etc, where in I was just blown away [no pun intended]! Btw, she shaved off her head for real in this movie. And I still think she looks GORGEOUS!! I have a huge crush on you Natalie Portman! :-D!
Wachowski brothers have definitely made a comeback with V for Vendetta. The plot, the storyline, the setting and the execution – they have finally got their equation right! This movie gets a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from me!
Some dialogues from the movie!
V's introduction to Evey
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V!
Evey: Are you like a crazy person?
I'm still in search for the dialogue about idea. Anyhoo, planning to get the DVD of this movie asap! This is too good :-)!
hey !!!!!
I totally agree with ur view on dis remarkable masterpiece. It truly is the film of this age .Thanks a lot for the introduction dialogue between V and EV.
Hey Abshishek!!
You are welcome and thanks for the comment. Welcome to the blog :-)!
Just happened to come across your blog while i was trying to do some background study on V & Alan Moore…
I totally agree with you…an absolutely brilliant movie, probably the onlt one that i have taken a liking for after so long….
As for the quote about the idea…is this the one you were talkin about???
“Beneath this mask there is more than flesh, Beneath this mask there is an idea,Mr.Creedy, and ideas are bullet proof.”
Hmmm… Forgot that one :-D!! But, no, something about ideas not dying… And if I remember right, it had the words “Idea” and “die”. Maybe it’s the mental idea. Anyway… Will make a post on it the minute I get the DVD. Still trying hard to get a good Divx rip or the original DVD!! :-D!! Btw, what research you doing on V & Alan Moore…??
Trying to write a piece on the movie myself, but will keep myself more towards how alan moore got this whole idea of “V”…
Alright…looks like i found what you were looking for. Here goes :
“Remember, remember, the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot…
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot…
But what of the man? I know his name was Guy Fawkes and I know, in his 1605, he attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. But who was he really? What was he like?
We are told to remember the idea, not the man, because a man can fail. He can be caught, he can be killed and forgotten, but 400 years later, an idea can still change the world. I’ve witnessed first hand the power of ideas, I’ve seen people kill in the name of them, and die defending them… but you cannot kiss an idea, cannot touch it, or hold it… ideas do not bleed, they do not feel pain, they do not love… And it is not an idea that I miss, it is a man… A man that made me remember the Fifth of November. A man that I will never forget.”
Yeah that’s the one I was searching for…. :-)! Thanks a ton for it!!
Danke a lot!!
Awesome!! Awaiting the piece of writing. :-)!!
I agree… I loved the movie! It was like Orwell and Hexley joined together to from a wonderful utopia of anarchy. I was also looking for that exact dialogue. I applaud you!

you all seem to know what your talking about.
im looking for the bit of dialogue near the end of the film where v tslks about ideas being bulletproof. i would be really really really gratefull iff you could help me.
This one?
“Beneath this mask there is more than flesh, Beneath this mask there is an idea,Mr.Creedy, and ideas are bullet proof.”
V for Vendetta is one of the absolutely best movies I’ve ever seen, and I think it allways will be. Everything is so good, all the way from the costumes and the acting to the cinematics.
Its pretty obvious you’ve never read the comic.
The move was an atrocity in comparison.
Don’t get me wrong! As a film it was entertaining, and I enjoyed it.
However,it seems the Wachowski brothers only skimmed the source material, took the bits they thought were cool and filled in the rest with Hollywood Fluff.
Several monologues that gave the comic all of its character were changed or cut out all together.
Example: Before V blows up the Old Bailey, he addresses the statue of Justice.
This would have been an enjoyable film if it wasn’t based on such an AMAZING graphic novel.
Wow, I will do just a bit of minor modification to your awesome comment and make that a quote. If possible, could you direct me to a place, I can buy the comic?
Thanks for the comment :)!
Check Borders or Barns & Noble. http://csls.diamondcomics.com/ can locate a specialty comic shop.
Also, while your at it, pick up League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, 300 (though I found that movie to be rather spot-on) and Watchman.
Remember Remember the mmmm aaaah mmmm what is it? shoot.. got to take my alzhimer’s pill.
