Route 66 John Mayer – Cars OST

Originally heard this song in Pandora – and then also heard it as part of Cars OST. I am in love with this song :-)! Originally by Chuck Berry, but performed also by John Mayer, I love JM’s version :-)!

Well if you ever plan to motor west
Just take my way that’s the highway that’s the best
Get your kicks on Route 66
Well it winds from Chicago to L.A.
More than 2000 miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well it goes from St Louis, down to Missouri
Oklahoma city looks oh so pretty
You?S?l see Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona don’t forget Winona
Kingsman, Barstaw, San Bernadino

Would you get hip to this kindly tip
And go take that California trip
Get your kick on Route 66
Well it goes from St. Louis, down to Missouri
Oklahoma city looks oh so pretty
You’ll see Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona don’t forget Winona
Kingsman, Barstaw, San Bernadino

  1. The song was originally written in 1946 by Bobby Troup and first performed by Nat “King” Cole. Route 66 Magazine has compiled a list of all the performers that have “officially” recorded and released it. The list is, if I remember correctly, over 500 artists long.

  2. Update: Outta 500 artists who have performed the song, I think John Mayer’s is the best! Note: I have heard only one other version!! But will listen to the others soon!!

@ Scott: Thanks for the info dude.!

  3. Hmm .. i think JM was heading on a wrong path with his last song – waiting for the world to change (was it?) .. was sounding more like dustbin timberlake!! Lemme check this one out … hopefully he has redeemed himself !
