Superman Returns – What the crap??

Y’day night I made the choice of putting on Superman Returns! Results….

  • I slept way too late – touched half past 1 in the morning by the time I slept

*Yawn* the repercussions are still running strong *Snore Snore* After 5 mins I open and find that I have started typing on Deepest Sender. Oh yeah Superman Returns. What’s up with the movie? First of all – terrible acting by Clark Kent / Superman. WTF – this was a disgrace for Christopher Reeves. Damn, the Superman image has been tarnished.

It’s also been tarnished for another reason, which I found completely sucking. They have initially portrayed Superman to be a wife-stealer.

I mean which normal man can compete with the man-of-steel? He can ward bullets with the glint of his eye. He can fly to anywhere at the blink of an eye. He can be romantic at times. He will be loyal to you! He will be a cool-dad to have. 😛 He would be the ideal person to have as a husband!!

Think about it – no need to buy a car, no insurance worries, no gas bills, no safety hazards. A personal man-of-steel chauffeur. 😛 I mean, you cannot compete with that.

As far as the kid is concerned -the dad would fly to the background – the new boy-friend of Mommy’s would be way too cooler to play catch with ;-)!!

The only good thing in the movie that I found was Kevin Spacey and his portrayal of Lex Luther. I gathered some respect for him since The Usual Suspects. and he’s given another stellar performance in Superman Returns as the negative role dude :-)!

Rating: SUCKS BIG TIME!! Waste of time!!

  1. OK…first off…I don’t like you anymore. 😐

That aside, I personally found SR to be a good (if not great) movie. Mostly because I am a die hard fan of the comics.

As for Chris Reeve, watch the old movies again and you’ll find out that you appreaciate them solely for their campy value. Chris Reeve gave an over the top performance that was something of an ‘in thing’ during the late 70’s (As was Star wars as well). I think most people still think Chris Reeve was a legend mostly ‘cos he broke his back and still made a difference to his as well as many others’ lives.

It’s kinda similar to what happenned to Michael J Fox. Yes, the Back to the Future movies were money makers but his character was was criticised ofeing oer the top. But when he came out with the fact that he had Parkinsons disease, the same performance was labelled as ‘enegetic’ as opposed to ‘over the top’.

SR was more of a ‘chick flick’ I agree but I’m hoping Bryan singer was building up to some slid ass kicking for the sequel, which I hear may have ‘Braniac’ as the villain!

Oh yeah, Kevin Spacey is always great …almost always.

    Dude…wake up now! 🙂

  2. @ PS: I knew ud react this way!! but it doesn’t change my opinion dude. See I am a humongous fan of the comics and hence was hurt by the fact that they had ripped my image of Superman being a man of good intentions :P!! Ditch the typos and it being a chic flick! It just didn’t cut that Superman was hitting on his old flame after time away from her.

What abt the poor new guy who stepped in the middle? He needs to take a hike for no fault of his and even is raising the child of Superman!!

Talking about that, what the f*** Lois Lane and Superman have a kid who has superpowers??

  3. @Guru Hmm…you seem to be upset by the fact that the guy in the middle doesn’t stand a chance. Interesting. I didn’t look at it that way at all, but I guess I loved the movie because I thought it would suck given that part 3 and 4 sucked ass.

Moreover, this movie reminded me a LOT of some of the early books by Alex Ross…especiall his graphic novel ‘Peace on earth’.

People all over the world, after watching SR were upset ‘cos he seemed too ‘flawless’. You on the other hand call him a ‘wife stealer’. hehe…

anyhoo, to each his own I guess

Most of my friends liked it (swen cried during the movie) but there was a friend of mine who called up from Blore after the movie saying, it was more like a “jayan movie’! 🙂

plus I love the animated series too but it’s not as good as Batman; The Animated series or Justice League!

    I hate growing up! 🙁

  4. Oh and about the kid, remember at the end of Part 2, Supes decides to give up his powers and has a one night/afternoon/morning stand with Lois? The kid is a result of that.

SR pretends that part 3 and 4 never hapenned…it starts off from where part 2 ended!

Well, don’t you think so? Well this is what hit me tho :-D!

    He is!! :-P! And Amen!!

ROTFLMAOI!! Hahahaha!! That was a nasty comment, but yeah it did seem so now that you think of it – red spandex vs red bell bottoms! Crappy dialogues vs Oru hand grenade undengil, eri pandhu kallikam aayirunnu!

Amen!! Batman Rules and I also kinda had liked Batman Returns initially. However, you know one of my all time advernture cartoon series – Johnny Quest! Can’t watch it anymore, but that had hooked me for quite a while. The one that can still keep me going are the “Cartoon Cartoon” ones!! ;-)!! Most of it is hilarious!!

Damn, I hate growing up too :-(!!

About the part as to Superman + Lois Lane = kid. Hmm, interesting ;-)!

  6. @Guru damn! I loved Johnny Quest too! I remember this one particular episode where they find a perfect spehere somewhere in the easter islands and realise something like that couldve been only made in zero gravity and stuff…woah…great stuff!

But you’re right, nothing beats ‘Cartoooooon cartoooon’!!! 🙂

  7. I have not watched the movie… but I dont think women would prefer Superman to a normal guy… ‘coz SM will be unreliable. What if I am having an emotional crisis and he has to fly off to save someone’s life? I wont even be able to blame him for deserting me. If I treat him bad, everyone will think I am b***h. His needs will always come before mine.. and he will have more opportunity to cheat… I’d rather go for a guy who is as bad as me…

  8. @ Bul: Hey what happened to your comments section in the posts? They are totally missing!!

Anyhoo – guess it’s only Lois then. But whenever Superman saves another woman, they are gonna be enamored by him for sure. Hot guy, hot body, but yea u raised an extremely interesting point there!!

Not there when I get emotional coz well yeah somebody might need saving in the world Hehehe!! *bowing to you o mighty Bul*

  9. Hehehhe… my comments section are there… I have switched back to blogger from haloscan… is that why you have not been posting comments?
