There are rumors around the web (which practically everyone calls a fake) that Apple will release an iPhone that supports the same video chat enabled via iChat on Monday. To propagate this usage, they are planning to release an iChat version for Windows as well.
The question is this – Will you use iChat for Windows?
Going by the track record of applications of Apple released for Windows, they are an option (at best) and sucky (at worst). Look iTunes / Safari. iTunes is so crippling in Windows that even I hate to use it in Windows. Safari just takes Apple’s arrogance to a whole new level in Windows. They even brought in their font rendering system to Windows. While it’s beautiful in Mac OS X, Apple defied its own laws of homogeneity by ditching ClearType in Windows.
I like iChat. However, I prefer Adium to iChat even in OSX. How many people would really adopt iChat for Windows? Let me know ur thoughts in the comments…
I’d start using it! Love the bubbles man 🙂
Hehe, Amen brother!!
i would like my girlfriend to have something like iChat. she has Windows and i want to be able to video chat (Skype does that quite fine, but…), share files (like photos, slideshows, etc) with her and screenshare (mainly screenshare) with her. yea now that i think of it, i can pretty much do everything i just listed except screenshare with her. and that’s the real value of iChat, imo.
i know i can get her to mess with setting to let me remote connect using Window’s RDC, but that involves her knowing how to mess with her computer, which she’s not too comfortable doing yet. i want something she can just download, install, (maybe mess with a few simple privacy settings) and then bam – ready to go. AIM Pro claims to do this, but the interface is confusing to her (i got her to use Pidgin for simple i.m.-ing). anyone know any free and/or open-source programs for Windows that will do this?
I want a way to use iChat on an older iBook that won’t run Skype. Do you know if this works between Windows and Mac?
I’m newst FAN of MAC apple and I’d lov to hav iChat on Windows XP, on XP b’cuz i can’t afford MAC!! :s 🙁
i think ichats best feature is overlooked the screen sharing is sooo useful to college students. it makes it possible to conference a paper across dorms or states while looking at the same screen to see the changes being made!!!
my roomate was doing this one night and it was very beneficial i wanted to do the same but alot of people cant use ichat because they run on windows. it made me sad.
i would fall in love with them if they release ichat for the windows xp operating system, my situation is: all the girls at the gym own macs so they do multi video chats and im on a windows so i cant do that with aim. i need ichat :'(
