> Declaring “everything is shit” while ignoring long-term reality and feeding yourself a curated diet of global disaster is high-grade, doom-flavoured Wankery.

> Sentence: Log off. Go outside. Think creatively. Stop acting like you’re living through the apocalypse when you’ve got oat milk in the fridge.

This post puts me in an uncomfortable spot. I know the move it is attacking because I make it too. The world is a mess. A lot of things are broken. Doom still turns into a soft excuse if I use it to dodge my own agency.

The harder question for me is simple: what am I doing about it?

Sometimes the answer is nothing. Fine. I am tired, distracted, cooked, whatever. But I do not want to turn that slump into an identity. I do not want to become a soggy muppet who mistakes helplessness for insight.

I keep coming back to this: even in a rough season, I still choose what kind of attention I feed. I still choose whether I look for one small good thing to protect. [Gratitude for the small moments](/blog/2026/04/07/gratitude-for-the-small-moments/) matters to me for that reason. Doom wants the whole room. I do not have to hand it the keys.
