This is a follow up to the thread Yegge started here. Since then a lot has happened, but I wanted to highlight this:

I can corroborate this with my own experience. I use gemini-cli more than any other coding agent. It perfoemed in a way that I understood and worked. It was not the most polished (see the amount of flickering that happens), but I put up with it because: I am a decade old paying Pro customer and I really like the gemini models - flash for agent and pro for deeper thinking.
I am also an enthusiast. As a tinkerer, I am very interested in how harnesses and agents work and I am looking to see if there is a way where I can get even more control over the way I fit an agent into my workflow and not the other way around.
So, I started playing with pi. Without any warning whatsoever, Google banned me from using gemini-cli or antigravity. Thankfully, I am not locked out of my Google account and my Pro membership continues. I also seem to continue to have access to gemini on the web. But, gemini-cli made the Pro subscription a deal.
But, the tinkering must continue.
To unblock myself, I subscribed to ChatGPT Pro (Teams version) to get access to codex for myself and H. They continue to remain supportive of 3P harnesses, at least for now.
For anyone asking, I didn’t choose claude code for the following reasons:
- min 5 seat requirements for a Teams plan. Teams plans have better data security protections.
- intended lack of support for 3P harnesses
- intent to remove claude code for $20 subscribers
- they also suffer from the TUI flickering
Honestly, codex seems great. Because of simulacrum, it has picked up from when gemini-cli stopped working including picking up a project that was left half-done as I got banned. Also so much less flickering.
A decision moment is looming. I cannot support paying a ChatGPT Pro and a Google One subscription. Google One has other benefits including storage and that would be my preferred path. However, I’ve started looking for Photos, Drive and email alternatives in case this remains unresolved.
