Nothing highlights the slime mould that is Google as the Gemini names.
First of all, why Gemini? Why is that the right name for a model? As opposed to a Google Intelligence - aGI, get it?
Now let’s assume that it was named after the constellation Gemini, given all the imagery surrounding the release, why?
I have a guess as it’s the brainchild of Google Brain + DeepMind - aka Google DeepMind - the twins of intelligence inside Google. But that is a deep cut and useless to help people.
But sure, nothing marketing $ can’t solve and we’ve been now seeing Google Gemini for the last 3+ years.
However in that time it went from model > chatbot > assistant > coding agent.
The coding agent is now Antigravity. It has the same “space” theme but no explanation why?
And then the models started improving Gemini 3. And we got a Flash (small and fast), Pro (big and slower).
Then we got version numbers: 3.1, 3.2 etc. until 3.8 Flash. But pro is still at 3.1 until Gemini 4 Argon.
Wait, what? What is the reason behind the introduction of the elements? And if so, why Argon, the 36th element in the periodic table?
Is it because it stood for A? If so why not Aluminium or Argentum or Aurum?
And today we get Gemini 4 Carbon.
Carbon is (famously) the 6th element in the periodic table and if it’s supposed to represent an alphabetic increment, stands for C.
What happened to B?
I’m so confused. 🤔
