I am a fan of desktops for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that it can keep up with the basics of the modern day browsing, video conferencing and screen sharing with lesser chances of fans spinning up.
In the beginning of the pandemic, life was near perfect as work allowed me to access the basics - email, docs, slides and figma using a desktop computer. However, for better op-sec, work’s since decided that one can only use a corp issued device.
In my case that’s an entry level 16" MBP. While no longer the hot stuff, it’s a good laptop and was tolerable with its fan noise until the recent Big Sur update after which even just typing a document on chrome just spins the fan up.
I know - Safari might be cooler, but again security requirements prevent me from using another browser.
So, what is one to do when one is particularly grated by fan noise?
And disable turbo boost. I don’t need it on for most of the time. Yes it seems to have an impact even when it comes to typing responsiveness and before one blames chrome, try typing on pages - yeesh and it impacts all browsers equally.
There is also the added annoyance of typing your username / password after every wake / reboot after log in. I think this might be more my work security than turbo boost itself.
However, even with this annoyance, the imapct of Turbo Boost switcher is ~40°C in steady state operation. It brings steady state temperatures down from ~90°C+ to ~50°C.
IMO, worth it. ymmv.
Weirdest tip ever but darned if it doesn’t work in my case. This helped me even though I didn’t even have another thunderbolt accessory on the left side of the Mac.
As I said, weird.
To an untrained eye, the Gripen E does not look greatly different from its predecessors which flew 50 years ago. Delta-winged, conical-nosed jet fighters that fly at twice the speed of sound and carry a few tons of bombs and missiles under their wings were around in the Vietnam War.
Hahaha.

We’re told that many data streams feed the graphic we see on TV during races. If that’s the case, they should just share the real data. Piling it all together to create a fictional number hasn’t worked, and the idea is undermined every time we see a graphic saying a driver’s tyres are ‘in the red’ with as little as 10% remaining, followed by a radio message of “tyres are fine” from the cockpit.
It’s an admirable idea, currently being poorly executed. Let’s stop trying to over-simplify it, and trust the audience to understand the real data points, either through their own knowledge or the help of TV commentators. – Glenn Freeman

I personally don’t recommend hardware wallets for a few of reasons.
You have to trust the manufacturer. If you don’t buy from the manufacturer directly you also have to trust anyone in the supply chain. Any of them could have manipulated or tampered with the device.
It doesn’t make you as safe as it feels. There are still lots of attacks (like address replacement, for example) that can still cause you to lose money even if the hardware wallet itself hasn’t been compromised.
It is bad opsec. Anyone who bought a Ledger wallet in the last few years just had their name, address and phone number publicly leaked. Buying a hardware wallet reveals your intention to self-custody crypto.
A hardware wallet doesn’t do anything a cheap air-gapped linux laptop couldn’t do - so hardware wallets are basically an aesthetic choice. They look cool. They feel secure.

This video has seen a lot of views in my household becuase of Om. I also think it does a good job balancing the various facets of a complex process and chooses the right details to include.
