What is your favorite season of year? Why?

Spring in Seattle is one of my favorite times of the year. The colors are out bright, a critical contrast against the greys that dominated the past 6+ months. Spring in Seattle appears after a period of depressive darkness for 90+ days. To me, it represents a resurgence of life. It comes at you fast. At home, the birches and the Japanese maples sprout new leaves and within a week are shading the sun and frolicking with the wind - singing the chorus with the evergreens.

But, it's the splash of colors that really get me going. After a few years of springs, most of which, I've experienced but never chronicled, in my mind they go like this. The tulips debut spring - their oranges and yellows and red a bright hue against the green grass and dying moss. The cherry blossoms join the next wave - gracing Seattle neighborhoods with their pinks and whites. Sometime in the month of April, the "blossom week" of the University of Washington Quad bring the people together (sometimes even during rain) before rain washes them all off. This year, I added the final tally to the flowers - the poppies - their crimson and black seeds distracting many a bumble bee.

Spring fills me with hope, and joy and bonding. The luscious green of the lawn with the sprinklers gently cooling the heat. O running through the sprinkler living carefree, often hopping back to the hammock to relax. The sound of flowing water, doing its best, to throttle the drone of cars moving a few hundred yards away in the highway.

It's a time of life, a time of joy. A time to relax and a time to enjoy. I even think that the surly Seattle freeze finally thaws and relaxes people to hang out and say hi.
